Daycare Staff Accused of Brutal Child Abuse

A childcare teacher and the director of a public daycare center in Seongju, North Gyeongsang Province, are now facing prosecution for alleged child abuse. The teacher, identified as A, is suspected of habitually abusing a boy named C over approximately three months beginning in April of last year.

Allegations against A include forcing the child to eat and pricking his hands and legs with a sharp needle. These disturbing acts were reportedly captured on closed-circuit television footage, which also showed A covering the child's mouth and pushing him. The investigation was initiated after C's parents reported the suspected abuse.

While director B did not directly participate in the abuse, police determined B bears responsibility for inadequate employee management and supervision. Consequently, B was also referred to prosecutors for violating the Child Welfare Act. The investigation concluded this past June, after about a year, with both individuals sent to the prosecution without detention. Officials stated no other teachers were involved.
