Daughter's Deadly Deception: How Jennifer Pan Plotted to Kill Her Parents

In November 2025, Netflix will release a documentary titled "What Jennifer Did" that examines the shocking case of Jennifer Pan, a young woman from the greater Toronto area who orchestrated a deadly plot to kill her parents in 2010.

Jennifer, the daughter of Vietnamese refugees, had been living under intense parental pressure to excel academically and in extracurricular activities. Barred from dating until after high school, she hid her relationship with her boyfriend from her strict, controlling parents. As her lies began to unravel, Jennifer hatched a plan to have her parents murdered, hiring three hitmen to carry out the attack.

On the night of November 8, 2010, the intruders entered the Pan family home, shooting Jennifer's mother, Bich, in the head and severely injuring her father, Hann. Bich died in the attack, but Hann survived despite sustaining critical injuries. Jennifer's elaborate deception was eventually uncovered, and in 2015 she was sentenced to two life terms in prison for her mother's murder and the attempted murder of her father.

Now, over a decade later, the case is being revisited in the Netflix documentary, which includes footage from the night of the attack and Jennifer's lengthy interrogation sessions. The film sheds light on the tragic consequences of Jennifer's web of lies and her desperate attempt to escape her oppressive upbringing.
