Paula and Malcolm McGill were sentenced to four and a half years imprisonment for a violent assault on Kirsty Barrie, Paula's 56-year-old mother. The attack occurred in the early hours of May 6, 2024, when the McGills forced their way into Miss Barrie's Clydebank flat after a period of estrangement.
During the assault, Miss Barrie was dragged by her hair, kicked repeatedly, and had her ribs stamped on, causing them to fracture. She was left with life-threatening injuries, including a brain bleed, a collapsed lung, and severe bruising, necessitating transport to the hospital by police due to a lack of available ambulances.
Forensic evidence, including blood on Malcolm McGill's shoes, linked the couple to the attack. Both pleaded guilty to severe assault. They received a lifelong non-harassment order prohibiting contact with Miss Barrie.
