Daughter Accused of Brutally Killing Mother in Milwaukee Backyard

In a tragic incident that has shocked the community, a 64-year-old woman named Carrie Zettel was allegedly bludgeoned to death in the backyard of her Milwaukee home earlier this month. According to a search warrant, Zettel's "brain matter was visible" following the brutal attack.

Authorities have arrested Zettel's 29-year-old daughter, Lauren Spors, and charged her with first-degree intentional homicide. This comes after a history of alleged violence and abuse within the family, including a domestic abuse restraining order filed against Spors in 2018.

Zettel's close friend and neighbor, Loretta Moyer, revealed that Zettel had long suspected Spors of playing a role in the 2018 death of her father, Jeffrey Spors. In a previous restraining order petition, Zettel had alleged that Lauren "struck her father repeatedly on [his] head with heavy decorative bottles" and "threatened [his] life with a knife."

Despite the family's troubled past, Zettel is being remembered for her bright personality and advocacy for those with mental illness. She was fondly known as "Grandma Carrie" among local children and was famous for her signature cheesecake-like dish.
