Romance Scam Turned Deadly: 37 Years Prison

A woman, identified as Aurora Phelps, faces serious allegations involving multiple deaths linked to romance scams. She was sentenced to 37 years in prison in Mexico. This sentence stems from the disappearance of Robert Erbach, a 67-year-old retiree she met on a dating app in December 2021. Erbach's remains were later discovered.

Prosecutors allege Phelps used dating apps to target older men, then drugged them to steal from their bank, Social Security, and retirement accounts. One victim reported $3.3 million in Apple stock sold and an attempted cash withdrawal. Another victim was allegedly drugged and later found dead in a Mexico City hotel room.

Phelps, a dual U.S.-Mexico citizen, was arrested by Mexican authorities. She is expected to be extradited to the United States to face fraud, identity theft, and kidnapping charges in Nevada. Her husband expressed shock at the allegations.
