17 Mar
Summary
- Gang used dating app to lure men for blackmail and QR code payments.
- Four arrested, while two masterminds remain at large.
- Crimes spanned multiple states including UP, Delhi, and Gujarat.

Aliganj police have successfully dismantled a gang that preyed on men using a popular gay dating application. The criminals established rapport through chats, persuading victims to meet in private rooms. Once victims arrived, the gang would barge in, record illicit videos, and threaten to release the footage unless money was transferred via QR codes.
Four gang members, aged between 21 and 23, were apprehended, along with a 17-year-old minor involved in luring victims. The operation, initiated after a March 15 complaint, involved analysis of electronic evidence and surveillance, leading to the arrests early on a Sunday. Recovered items include mobile phones, motorcycles, and transaction details showing transfers of ₹19,999.
The accused confessed to similar crimes in Uttar Pradesh and other states like Delhi, West Bengal, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Maharashtra. Investigations are ongoing to identify more victims and apprehend the two elusive masterminds. The recovered mobile phones will undergo forensic examination.
