The court, while initiating trial proceedings for the murder that occurred on June 8, 2024, questioned the prison authorities' actions and directed them to immediately provide Darshan with a blanket. The case involves Darshan, his partner Pavithra Gowda, and 15 others, who were arrested on charges of kidnapping and brutally murdering Renukaswamy.

Renukaswamy was reportedly tortured to death after being kidnapped from Chitradurga and brought to Bengaluru, with his body later found in a canal.
