A 28-year-old man was thrashed by locals in Prayagraj on Wednesday following accusations of attempting to rape a deaf and mute minor girl. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Industrial Area police station. The accused, identified as Manish from the same neighbourhood, reportedly lured the disabled girl away on Tuesday night under false pretenses.
Alert family members discovered the situation and intervened as the accused was attempting to assault the girl. The accused fled but was apprehended by the community members on Wednesday morning. He was then beaten by the locals before being handed over to the police.
Authorities have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and have assigned a team of translators to assist the victim in providing her statement. The investigation into the incident is ongoing as the police continue to gather evidence and statements.
