16 Apr
Summary
- Former NBA player Damon Jones will plead guilty to federal gambling charges.
- Jones allegedly sold insider information, including player status, to gamblers.
- He faces separate charges in another DOJ gambling investigation.

Former NBA player and coach Damon Jones has indicated he will plead guilty to federal sports gambling charges. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York initially charged Jones last October with two federal counts.
Jones was accused of providing insider information, such as LeBron James' game status, to sports gamblers during his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers. He is the first of six defendants charged in this case to announce his intention to plead guilty. Notably, former guard Terry Rozier is also facing charges in the same indictment.
Separately, Jones is implicated in another Department of Justice gambling investigation. Federal prosecutors allege he participated in a rigged poker game ring that defrauded victims of millions. In this case, Jones, along with former coach Chauncey Billups, allegedly acted as lures to attract victims. Jones has pleaded not guilty to these charges.
