A 45-year-old father, Gareth Griffiths, was found deceased in Hyde Park's Serpentine Lake on Christmas Eve. He had been missing for three weeks after traveling from Cornwall to London. Griffiths was in the city to support his 13-year-old son during a critical bone marrow transplant at St Mary's Hospital. His body was discovered in the lake near Winter Wonderland after a public report of a jacket floating in the water.
Griffiths' brother, who is now caring for his two nephews, believes his passing was a tragic accident. The family was devastated by the news, especially as Christmas Day was spent informing their mother and celebrating his brother's 50th birthday was overshadowed. The Metropolitan Police are continuing their enquiries into the unexpected death, having received a missing person report on December 10.
Gareth Griffiths, a builder, was last seen on December 3, the day he went missing. His family is organizing his funeral and plans to scatter his ashes at sea. The police have indicated he had connections to various areas in London and Cornwall, and are supporting his next of kin.
