Culver City police have arrested a suspect in connection with a series of suspicious fires that occurred over the last few weeks. The arrest followed an investigation into multiple incidents, including a vehicle fire reported on June 2 in the 11100 block of Culver Boulevard. This fire escalated, damaging a second vehicle and two large trees, creating a significant risk. Detectives found similarities between this incident and other fires in Culver City, such as those on Center Street and in Tellefson Park.
Investigators identified 41-year-old resident Rizwan Ahmen as the suspect. With assistance from the Monrovia Police Department, Ahmen was taken into custody on June 12. He was booked at the Culver City Jail and is awaiting potential charges from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. These charges include aggravated arson, arson, and felony vandalism. Police emphasized that arson is a dangerous crime because flames can spread rapidly, threatening nearby homes and the broader community.
