A death investigation is underway following the passing of an 18-year-old California State University, Fullerton student over the weekend. Anthony Joseph Blas was pronounced dead at St. Jude Medical Center's emergency department on Sunday, September 13th, just after midnight.
Officers responded to the hospital where Blas was brought, found unresponsive. Despite immediate lifesaving attempts, he could not be revived. The Fullerton Police Department initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Investigators determined Blas had been attending a function at a fraternity near Associated Road and Milton Avenue shortly before his transport to the hospital. Early findings suggest alcohol consumption played a role in the tragic event.
The Orange County Sheriff-Coroner's Office will determine the official cause and manner of death. Police confirm that hazing is not believed to be a factor, and there is currently no evidence of foul play.
