13 Nov
Summary
- 18-year-old MBBS aspirant Chandrika Chaudhary murdered in honor killing
- Chandrika eloped with her 23-year-old married live-in partner Haresh Chaudhary
- Court ordered investigation into Haresh's role as the complainant in the case

On June 24-25, 2025, 18-year-old Chandrika Chaudhary, an MBBS aspirant with a NEET UG score of 478/720, was allegedly strangled by her father and uncle at their home in Dantiya village, Tharad, Banaskantha. The duo had administered her a large dose of sleeping pills and hung her body to masquerade it as a suicide.
Two days before this incident, Chandrika's 23-year-old married live-in partner, Haresh Chaudhary, had filed a habeas corpus petition in the Gujarat High Court demanding that Chandrika be produced before the court. The court had directed the Tharad police to produce her on June 27, 2025, but they were informed that Chandrika had died of natural causes on June 25.
Following a report published by TOI on August 1, 2025, an inquiry was ordered, and an FIR was filed on August 6, 2025, naming Chandrika's father, uncle, and others for the crime. Haresh is the complainant in this FIR.
The additional sessions court at Tharad has now directed the police to investigate Haresh's role, stating that his conduct could be treated as abetment or culpable homicide under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The court has ordered the investigating officer to submit a detailed report by December 1, 2025.
