A Kalyan sessions court has refused anticipatory bail to Prashant Laxman Deshmukh, who is allegedly a former aide of gangster Chhota Rajan. Deshmukh and his associates are accused of attacking a railway contractor with a sharp weapon and a paver block two weeks ago.
Additional sessions judge P P Muley observed that the victim had provided a consent affidavit for Deshmukh's bail. However, the judge considered this consent potentially made under duress. The court highlighted the risk of Deshmukh absconding and influencing witnesses, deeming it unsuitable for granting protection.
The defense argued Deshmukh was not at the scene and his criminal record was outdated. Conversely, the prosecution identified Deshmukh as the alleged leader of the 'PD gang,' responsible for the attack. The court acknowledged a past business relationship between Deshmukh and the victim that had soured, referencing prior alleged threats.
