Heartless couple let daughter starve to death
18 Mar
Summary
- Agoraphobic woman found dead from starvation and neglect
- Parents admit causing or allowing death of vulnerable adult
- Court hears of daughter's emaciated state and untreated sores

In May 2023, Steffie Davies, 32, was discovered deceased in squalid conditions at her parents' home. Paramedics were shocked by her emaciated state, lice, flies, and severe fungal infections, with deep bed sores left untreated for at least six weeks. Steffie, who suffered from anxiety and agoraphobia, had been bedbound for a year.
Her parents, Bernita and Alan Davies, have pleaded guilty to causing or allowing the death of a vulnerable adult. Mrs. Justice Mary Stacey called the couple 'heartless' and noted a lack of remorse. Steffie died from sepsis, exacerbated by her extremely low body weight and infected pressure sores.
Bernita Davies made a tearful 999 call describing her daughter as 'dead...wet and cold.' The prosecution stated Steffie had not attended a GP appointment since 2017. Her sister expressed deep anguish, questioning why her parents did not seek help for Steffie, who had 'so much potential.'
