Skeletal remains of a couple, allegedly murdered by the victim's brother over a property dispute, were recovered nearly three months after their disappearance. The accused, Anuj, was arrested on August 23 in Varanasi.
Police reported that Anuj confessed to killing his brother, laptop businessman Manoj Bhagat (48), and his wife, Meenu Devi (45), on the night of May 19. He then transported their bodies and buried them in the Bochahan police station area.
The couple resided in Brahmpura, their home also housing rental shops. Their daughter reported them missing after neighbours could not locate them, prompting a police investigation that uncovered bloodstains in the house and Anuj's car.
Investigators believe Anuj sought to gain control of the property and its rental income. He has been sent to judicial custody as further interrogation is planned.
