29 Oct
Summary
- Couple sentenced to life for 'brutal and merciless' fatal assault.
- Victim suffered approximately 24 injury groups during the attack.
- Attackers remained in the flat after the victim's death.
Abigniew Chlebek and Beata Walczak have received life sentences for their involvement in a "brutal and merciless" attack that led to the death of Jaroslav Daniszewski. The victim was found deceased on April 22, 2025, at Chlebek's residence in Shipley, following a night of heavy alcohol consumption.
During the trial at Bradford Crown Court, both Chlebek and Walczak were convicted of murder. Judge Geoffrey Marson described the assault as having multiple blows, leaving Daniszewski with little chance to defend himself. The court heard that the victim sustained approximately 24 groups of injuries, primarily to his head and face, with the second of two severe brain injuries proving fatal.
Despite both defendants claiming no memory of the events, the judge was convinced of their intent to kill, citing the ferocity of the attack and the couple's callous reaction. They remained in the flat after Daniszewski's death and provided false information to the police. Senior Investigating Officer Matt Holdsworth highlighted the prolonged nature of the assault and the offenders' failure to seek medical help, hoping the verdict would bring comfort to the victim's family. Chlebek was sentenced to a minimum of 14 years and 168 days, and Walczak to 14 years and 169 days, both to remain on license for life.
