10 Dec
Summary
- Baby suffered over 80 injuries, including 76 rib fractures.

- Mother convicted of manslaughter, father of murder.

A mother and her partner have been convicted of the brutal death of their eight-month-old son, Devaun Rose-Turner, who endured more than 80 injuries over the final weeks of his life. The father, Emmanuel Turner, was found guilty of murder, while the mother, Shandies Rose, was convicted of manslaughter. Both were also found guilty of causing or allowing a child to suffer serious injury.
During a seven-week trial, the father claimed the baby's extensive injuries, including 76 rib fractures and a severe stomach rupture, resulted from a fall or CPR he administered. However, neighbors in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, reported hearing a baby crying, loud thuds, and arguing during the night. Prosecutors argued that the parents could not have been unaware of the prolonged abuse.
Devaun was discovered not breathing on December 11, 2021, and later died in the hospital. An expert likened his injuries to those sustained in a high-speed car accident. The couple, who had previously traveled abroad after their son's death, are now facing lengthy prison sentences. Sentencing is scheduled for February 24.
