13 Apr
Summary
- Police partnered with sports clubs to improve security measures.
- Thieves stole thousands of pounds worth of equipment from clubs.
- Forensic markers and DNA property marking offered to clubs.

Devon and Cornwall Police have initiated a collaborative effort with sports clubs across Cornwall to enhance the security of valuable equipment following a spate of recent burglaries. These raids resulted in the theft of numerous high-value items, including tractors and mowers, causing substantial financial losses for the affected clubs.
In response, police attended an event organized by the Cornwall Football Association and the Grounds Management Association. The initiative focused on promoting effective strategies for keeping sports equipment safe and secure. Since March 1, 35 incidents have been recorded in Devon and Cornwall, with thefts including a £30,000 ride-on mower and trailer and a £16,500 tractor.
To combat this issue, the force is providing clubs with access to forensic markers, which aid in identifying and returning stolen property if recovered. Additionally, advice on secure storage, general security tips, and DNA property marking services were shared. This partnership aims to protect vital equipment, prevent further thefts, and deter potential offenders from targeting sports clubs.
