On October 10, 2025, the accused in a brutal rape and murder case, Karthik, was apprehended by the police in Mysuru. Karthik, who had fled to the nearby town of Kollegal after the crime, was shot in the leg while attempting to attack the arresting officers.
The 9-year-old victim, from Kalaburagi, was abducted from her home while sleeping alongside her family members. Karthik, who had previously worked as a cleaner on private buses, is accused of taking the child to a secluded location and committing the heinous offense before fleeing the scene.
Investigations have revealed that Karthik was convicted of murder in Kollegal in 2022, but the sentence was later suspended by the high court, and he was granted bail. Now, he is being treated at the jail ward of a Mysuru hospital and will be taken into custody for further questioning.
The police commissioner, Seema Latkar, has stated that the case is being thoroughly investigated, and the accused will face the full extent of the law for his crimes.
