A group of four college students in Gurgaon resorted to car theft to finance their extravagant nightlife and parties. The friends, bound by old school ties, spent three months meticulously stealing tyres and rims from parked cars after midnight. Their operation, executed with precision, involved using jacks and specialized tools to lift vehicles before removing the wheels, leaving the cars balanced on bricks.
The students, hailing from diverse academic backgrounds including law, CA, and commerce, confessed to a total of 14 thefts. Their motive, police revealed, stemmed from a desire for clubbing and parties, exacerbated by the recent withdrawal of their pocket money. Investigations suggest that popular heist movies significantly influenced their criminal endeavors.
The gang's activities came to an end on Friday when they were apprehended by the crime branch in Sector 49, following a tip-off. Authorities are currently seeking their remand to recover the stolen goods and conduct further interrogations, while also working to identify and apprehend buyers of the illicitly traded car parts.
