In Coimbatore, authorities have granted police one-day custody for three individuals accused in the gangrape of a 20-year-old college student. The incident occurred in the early hours of November 23 near Government Polytechnic College in Peelamedu. The suspects, identified as T. Karuppasamy, T. Kaleeswaran, and M. Guna, were apprehended after police shot them in the legs during their arrest the day following the alleged crime.
Significantly, the accused were brought to the additional mahila court on Thursday in two ambulances, requiring stretchers and a wheelchair to be brought before the judge due to their leg injuries. The judicial magistrate recorded their statements during an in-camera proceeding before approving the police's request for custody. The court's decision allows investigators to further interrogate the suspects.
Following the court appearance, the three men were transferred to the Police Recruit School (PRS) premises for continued investigation into the gangrape case. The proceedings highlight the swift action taken by law enforcement and the critical condition of the accused at the time of their court appearance.
