Chettipalayam police arrested two guest workers on Sunday night for their involvement in smuggling a significant quantity of banned gutka products. The operation, which took place near Chettipalayam on the Chettipalayam-Palladam road, resulted in the seizure of 103.5kg of the contraband.
The arrested individuals, identified as S Ghewa Ram, 34, and Dhana Ram, 25, both from Jalor district in Rajasthan, were working as daily wage labourers in the area. Police apprehended them during a routine vehicle check, confiscating both the gutka and the scooter used for transportation.
Following their arrest, the two accused were produced before a local court and have been remanded to judicial custody. Further investigations are likely underway to uncover the broader network involved in the illegal gutka trade.
