Stanislav Atanasov, 39, has been sentenced to 38 months in prison for a head-on collision that left a 29-year-old woman with serious, life-changing injuries. The incident occurred on February 14 on Pershore Lane in Worcester, when Atanasov, driving under the influence of cocaine, overtook traffic at speed and collided with another vehicle.
Police and paramedics at the scene noted Atanasov was clearly impaired by drugs. Subsequent toxicology reports confirmed high levels of Benzoylecgonine (BZE), a cocaine breakdown product, and Methylamphetamine in his blood, significantly exceeding legal limits. Atanasov, who has no fixed address, pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving with no insurance.
He was held on remand until his sentencing at Worcester Crown Court on Friday. Upon release, Atanasov will also face a five-year driving ban, requiring an extended re-test before he can drive again. The victim's recovery is ongoing, and authorities hope sharing the case details deters others from driving under the influence.
