In Co Leitrim, the remains of Liam Farrell, an 87-year-old retired farmer, are being exhumed as gardai investigate the circumstances of his death on January 12, 2020. This exhumation, ordered by the Justice Minister, aims to provide forensic clarity.
The operation is being conducted by the Garda Technical Bureau, with assistance from funeral undertakers, the chief state pathologist, and an environmental health officer. Protocols governing exhumations are being strictly followed.
Gardai are appealing to anyone who saw Mr. Farrell on the night of January 11, 2020. He left his home around 9 pm, visited Reynolds Pub and the Weir Lodge, socialising with locals before walking home around 12:15 am on January 12.
He was discovered unresponsive by his son and daughter later that afternoon. Mr. Farrell, described as a fit man, was a well-known figure in the Rooskey community.
