CISF Boosts Airport Security Against Drones
30 May
Summary
- CISF enhances airport security for emerging threats.
- Counter-drone training is a new operational focus.
- Security upgrades include advanced screening tools.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) recently convened a review meeting in Chandigarh to enhance operational preparedness and security at airports in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Gujarat. Director General Praveer Ranjan emphasized strengthening defenses against evolving threats, specifically mentioning drone challenges, anti-sabotage measures, and disaster response.
A significant initiative discussed was the phased rollout of a counter-drone training program for CISF personnel, conducted in partnership with the Army. This specialized training aims to equip officers with advanced capabilities to detect, track, and neutralize hostile unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) operating at low altitudes.
Discussions also covered joint counter-terrorism and disaster management training with the Army and other agencies. The CISF is undertaking technological and operational upgrades, focusing on reinforcing perimeter security, improving surveillance networks, and implementing next-generation screening tools to uphold global aviation security standards.
Furthermore, the CISF is fortifying its quick reaction teams, with 659 personnel already completing military-grade 'Battle Inoculation Training'. A proposal to establish a dedicated CISF Aviation Security Academy (CASA) is also under consideration by the Ministry of Home Affairs to further advance specialized research and training in aviation security.
