R&B singer Chris Brown pleaded guilty to affray on July 24, 2026, admitting to a "vicious and unprovoked" bottle attack at a central London nightclub in early 2023. The 37-year-old singer struck a former friend twice over the head with a glass bottle on the dancefloor of Tape London in Mayfair.
Also involved in the assault was Brown's vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, who pleaded guilty to the same charge. The victim sustained head and knee injuries and received treatment at St Mary's Hospital. Charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon were dropped.
Brown, originally from California, was arrested on May 15, 2025, after returning to the UK for a concert, over two years after the incident. He and Akinlolu were bailed by Judge Tony Baumgartner to appear for sentencing at Southwark Crown Court on October 26, 2026. Brown is permitted to leave the UK but must return for the sentencing.
This incident follows Brown's 2009 guilty plea to assaulting his former girlfriend, pop star Rihanna, an event that occurred before the Grammy Awards.
