Chinese Gambling Kingpin Faces Extradition to China After 3-Year Legal Battle

As of November 10, 2025, a Thai court of appeal has upheld an extradition order against a Chinese gambling kingpin, She Zhijiang. The 43-year-old Chinese national, who also holds a Cambodian passport, was arrested by Thai police in August 2022 on an international warrant and Interpol red notice requested by Beijing.

The Thai criminal court had initially ordered She's extradition to China in May 2024, but his legal team appealed the decision, arguing that the order breached the law. Last month, the Thai Constitutional Court ruled that the extradition order was lawful, paving the way for She's extradition.

According to the Thai prosecutor's statement, She is accused of running illegal online gambling operations, including founding and operating 239 gambling websites with a circulating capital of over 12.63 trillion baht ($385.65 billion). He is also accused of building and operating two casinos at Shwe Kokko in Myanmar, where he allegedly "enticed Chinese nationals to participate in gambling activities" through various online platforms.

Despite the allegations, She continues to deny any wrongdoing, claiming that the case against him in China is politically motivated and based on alleged offenses dating back to 2011. The Thai government now has 90 days to coordinate She's extradition to China, where he will stand trial for his alleged crimes.
