Child Star Sued for $900K Gold Coin Scam

Summary

  • Former child actor Erik von Detten allegedly defrauded couple of $900,000.
  • Couple invested over $2 million in gold coins between 2020 and 2021.
  • Lawsuit alleges financial elder abuse and wrongful appropriation of funds.

An elderly couple has filed a lawsuit against former child actor Erik von Detten and Rosland Capital LLC, alleging they were defrauded of at least $900,000.

The couple, Sheila and Norman Greenberg, claim von Detten convinced them to purchase gold coins worth over $2 million between October 2020 and August 2021. They assert von Detten, acting as an agent for Rosland Capital, presented himself as knowledgeable in precious metals and IRAs.

According to the complaint filed in California on May 11, the Greenbergs placed their trust in von Detten to manage their retirement funds. However, they allege the gold coins had significantly less value than their purchase price, resulting in substantial losses.

The lawsuit further alleges financial elder abuse, with the couple only becoming aware of the alleged fleecing in 2025. Rosland Capital filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 2.

Von Detten, known for roles in "Toy Story" and "The Princess Diaries," largely stepped away from acting after 2010. A court conference in the case is scheduled for November 9.
