A 3-year-old boy has been found safe following a violent domestic incident that resulted in his mother's death and his sister being shot. Police discovered the deceased mother, Rayven Amuan Edwards, at a Washington D.C. residence on Wednesday, February 11th, after responding to a shooting report.
Edwards' 10-year-old daughter also sustained gunshot wounds but survived with non-life-threatening injuries. Stephon Marquis Jeter, the father of the 3-year-old boy and partner of Edwards, was identified as the suspect. He reportedly fled the scene with his son in a black pickup truck.
Authorities issued an alert, and police in Maryland located Jeter's vehicle later that day. During a pursuit, the vehicle crashed, and Jeter was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The child was not present during the crash.
An AMBER alert was issued, leading to the successful recovery of the boy at a family member's home in Prince George's County, Maryland. He was unharmed. Police Chief Jeffery Carroll described the event as a domestic dispute that escalated tragically, stating an entire family was destroyed.
