4-Year-Old Hospitalized After Eating THC Lollipop

A four-year-old boy required hospitalization after consuming a THC-laced lollipop obtained from a birthday party goodie bag. The incident occurred at an Austin Montessori school, where the child began exhibiting signs of intoxication, including hallucinations and a racing heart rate. His mother expressed distress over the experience, noting her son was not himself.

Following the discovery, the mother contacted the school to alert them, but she alleges that staff delayed informing other parents of the situation for approximately two days via a vague message. This delay has led to significant anger and concern among parents, with some choosing to remove their children from the school.

Austin police investigated the incident and deemed it consistent with accidental introduction rather than a deliberate act. The case was administratively closed due to insufficient evidence for criminal charges under Texas law. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission is continuing its examination of the event.
