A child's attempt to save a grandmother from a fatal XL Bully attack involved wielding a broom, a court heard. Esther Martin, 68, died on February 3, 2024, after being mauled by two XL Bullies, Beauty and Bear, while under the care of owner Ashley Warren.
The incident unfolded when the dogs escaped a room, and Ms. Martin was injured while trying to separate puppies. The child, attempting to help, was subsequently locked out of the house. Police officers, deeming the scene too dangerous to enter, tasered and shot the animals.
Warren, who reportedly sent messages indicating he struggled with the dogs and their puppies, now faces charges. The attack occurred shortly after the XL Bully became a banned breed in England and Wales without an exemption certificate. He faces charges of owning a dangerously out-of-control dog causing death.
