23 Jun
Summary
- Suspect aimed for a Columbine massacre-style shooting.
- Two were killed and one child injured in the library attack.
- Suspect linked to online group glorifying mass killers.

An 18-year-old man, Bradley Scott Sayer, was apprehended by police shortly after a shooting incident occurred at the Chico branch of the Butte County Library. The event, which took place Monday evening, resulted in two fatalities and left one child with minor injuries.
According to Chico Police Chief Billy Aldridge, Sayer was taken into custody while attempting to flee the premises. He is currently detained at the Butte County Jail, facing two counts of murder.
Law enforcement officials indicated that Sayer expressed a desire for a Columbine massacre-style shooting and apparently did not know his victims. He was reportedly dressed in attire similar to that of Columbine killer Eric Harris.
Investigators tentatively believe Sayer is connected to an online fandom group that idolizes mass killers and has been linked to prior violent incidents. The investigation suggests he acted alone, driven by an obsession with the Columbine High School massacre.
In the aftermath of the shooting, all Butte County Library branches were closed on Tuesday. The Chico Police Department, in collaboration with the Butte County Sheriff's Office and the FBI, is continuing the investigation. Authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing danger.
