A Chicago man, Sean Popps, faces new charges after allegedly attacking a doctor in an elevator at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The incident occurred on November 2, when Popps reportedly followed the cardiologist into the elevator and began an unprovoked assault, causing her head and facial injuries.
Hospital security identified Popps, noting over 30 prior incidents at the facility. Popps has a concerning criminal record, with a dozen arrests in 2025 alone, primarily near the hospital campus. He was also previously arrested seven times in 2024.
At the time of his latest arrest, Popps was on pretrial release for alleged trespassing and attempting to escape police custody. He is currently in custody at Cook County Jail, charged with aggravated battery in a public place.
