Summary
- A man covered a railway signal with clothes to halt a train.
- He robbed a passenger of a four sovereign gold chain.
- The accused has pending cases and was previously detained under Goondas Act.

An autorickshaw driver in Chennai was apprehended within 24 hours for a daring train robbery. The 32-year-old, identified as Kumaresan of Villivakkam, allegedly used a novel tactic on Tuesday morning. He covered a railway signal with clothes between Kattankulathur and Potheri stations.
This obstruction caused the pilot of the Nellai Express, bound for Chennai, to slow the train. Seizing the opportunity, Kumaresan boarded the moving train. He then robbed a passenger, Asutha of Tuticorin, of her gold chain, estimated to be worth ₹4.75 lakh.
Authorities reviewing CCTV footage and physical evidence of the covered signal led to Kumaresan's arrest. Investigations revealed he often targeted passengers on slow-moving trains and has previous cases registered against him. He was also previously detained under the Goondas Act.
Railway Police deputy superintendent N Kavinna stated that the accused had previously employed the tactic of obstructing signals in suburban areas. She urged passengers to stay alert and report any suspicious activity immediately to the railway police.
