17 May
Summary
- Three police personnel suspended for accepting bribes.
- Prisoner received special treatment during court escorts.
- An attempted attack on a police vehicle carrying the prisoner occurred.

Three police personnel from Chennai, identified as Inspector Marimuthu and constables Thirumurugan and Chelladurai, have been suspended following a departmental inquiry. They are accused of accepting bribes from Vellai Kali, a history-sheeter lodged in Puzhal central prison.
Evidence confirmed that the officers provided Vellai Kali with special privileges during his court escorts. This corruption came to light after an incident on January 24, where a gang attacked the police vehicle transporting Vellai Kali. One assailant, Kottu Raja, was later killed in a police encounter.
Greater Chennai police commissioner Abin Dinesh Modak ordered the suspension of the three officers. The inquiry found that these personnel had repeatedly accepted money from the accused to extend favors during his court appearances, leading to their dismissal from duty pending further investigation.
