Eyelash technician Olga Tsvyk narrowly survived an attempted identity theft plot orchestrated by a client, Viktoria Nasyrova, in 2016. Nasyrova, an alleged Russian fugitive, poisoned Tsvyk with a slice of cheesecake containing the potent sedative phenazepam. Tsvyk became disoriented and her belongings were stolen, with Nasyrova aiming to assume her look-alike's identity.
The investigation revealed traces of phenazepam, a sedative not legally available in the U.S., in the cheesecake remnants. This discovery elevated the charges against Nasyrova from grand larceny to attempted murder, highlighting the severity of her actions and the danger posed by the drug, which can be fatal when combined with high body temperatures.
Nasyrova was apprehended in March 2017 and subsequently sentenced to 21 years in prison for poisoning Tsvyk and stealing her identification.
