Chandigarh Cops Net Rs 17 Crore Fine: 7 Lakh Violators Caught!

Chandigarh's traffic police have issued a substantial 7,12,000 challans to motorists between January 1 and November 5 of this year. This resulted in the collection of nearly Rs 17 crore in fines, reflecting a slight decrease from the previous year's collections. Red light jumping and speeding violations constitute the majority of offenses caught by the authorities.

The city's advanced surveillance system, comprising over 2,000 high-tech CCTV cameras, plays a crucial role in monitoring traffic. Coupled with public contributions via social media, where residents post evidence of violations, the police have an effective tool for enforcement. Thousands of challans have been issued based on these citizen-submitted photos and videos.

While traffic rule violations persist, the data indicates a marginal improvement compared to last year, where a higher number of challans were issued and more fines collected. This suggests that ongoing enforcement efforts, enhanced by technology and public participation, are having some impact on deterring traffic offenders in Chandigarh.
