Auto Driver Held for Friend's Murder After 15-Day Chase

An auto driver identified as Vishal Mishra, 26, has been apprehended by the Industrial Area Phase-1 police in Chandigarh, concluding a 15-day manhunt. Mishra is accused of murdering his friend, Arun Kumar Tiwari, 31, also an auto driver.
The fatal incident transpired on January 28, 2026. The victim's brother, Prem Prakash Tiwari, reported that an initial altercation between Arun and Vishal at the railway station was resolved. However, a second, more serious argument erupted later at a hotel in Daria village.
During the second dispute, Vishal Mishra allegedly used a kitchen knife to attack Arun Kumar Tiwari. Despite efforts to transport the injured Arun to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries en route. Police had been conducting continuous raids to locate the absconding suspect before his eventual arrest.
Mishra was presented in court and has been granted a two-day police remand for further investigation. Authorities also noted a previous case registered against him in 2024. The arrest brings a close to the immediate pursuit of the suspect in this tragic case.
