Summary
- An accused stalker attacked two girls with a chainsaw at a government school.
- One girl is critical, requiring surgery and potential air ambulance transfer.
- Mental health counselors are visiting students to provide support.
An alarming attack occurred at a government school in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district, where a 21-year-old man reportedly used a chainsaw to assault two students. The accused, identified as Hemanth alias Dummu, is believed to be the uncle of one of the targeted girls and was allegedly motivated by rejection.
The assailant, still at large, entered a classroom at Zilla Parishad High School in Raptadu village during a lesson. Two girls sustained injuries, with one in critical condition. She is undergoing surgery and may be moved by air ambulance to a hospital in Bengaluru.
A teacher present during the incident described the initial confusion, mistaking the attacker's tools for those of construction workers. Panic ensued as students scattered, making immediate assessment difficult. The school staff, also in shock, are receiving support.
In response, the Education Minister has arranged for 20 mental health counselors to visit the homes of all 32 students in Class X-A, along with girl students from Classes 8 and 9. This initiative aims to provide crucial emotional support and aid in trauma recovery.
