Central Park Crime Surge: Assaults, Sex Crimes Skyrocket

Serious assaults in New York City's Central Park have surged by 58% in 2025, alarming park visitors. Alongside this, incidents categorized as 'other sex crimes' have seen a disturbing 146% increase compared to the previous year. These statistics are prompting widespread concern among those who frequent the iconic green space, with many feeling increasingly vulnerable.

The data reveals a sharp rise in felony assaults, climbing from 12 in the same period last year to 19 this year. Non-rape sex offenses have also escalated dramatically, contributing to a growing sense of unease. Several recent incidents, including a groping and a physical assault involving a scooter, have heightened fears, leading some visitors to avoid the park alone, particularly after dark.

While overall crime in the park is down, the rise in violent and sexual offenses has prompted calls for increased safety measures. Park officials are expanding specialized patrol teams, known as Q-Teams, in an effort to curb the crime rate further and restore a sense of security for the millions who visit Central Park annually.
