The man became armed with a screwdriver and other sharp objects, resisting police attempts to subdue him with stun guns and pepper spray.
Specialist tactical officers were called to the scene. The situation intensified when the man ignited an aerosol can inside the premises. As officers entered, he reportedly grabbed one officer and attempted to stab him with a shard of glass or similar item, striking protective gear.
In response, multiple officers fired shots, hitting the man. Paramedics treated him at the scene, but he succumbed to his injuries. One police officer sustained minor injuries. The State Crime Command's homicide squad will lead a critical incident investigation into the police actions.
