Kelly Kershaw, a 54-year-old building society cashier, received a 16-month prison sentence for defrauding vulnerable customers. Between December 2023 and October 2024, Kershaw stole a minimum of £8,605 from elderly clients and individuals with learning disabilities at the Nationwide branch in Caernarfon. She achieved this by forging signatures and processing unauthorized cash withdrawals. Her actions were exposed when colleagues noticed her Facebook posts showcasing extravagant holidays in Africa, Paris, Tuscany, and Dubai, which funded her lavish lifestyle. Kershaw admitted to five counts of fraud, reportedly stating her victims were "easy targets who wouldn't miss the money." The court heard that her offending was motivated by greed and a compulsive spending habit, exacerbated by mental health struggles. Judge Timothy Petts emphasized the breach of trust and the deliberate targeting of vulnerable individuals, concluding that imprisonment was unavoidable. Nationwide has since reimbursed all affected customers, and a further hearing is scheduled to determine restitution from Kershaw.
