In late October, 59-year-old Richard McClintic, who suffered from cerebral palsy, was reported missing by his family. After a welfare check at his apartment on November 6, police discovered McClintic's body. His caretaker, 41-year-old Christina Cowens, has been in custody since her arrest on November 10 and is now facing homicide and additional fraud-related charges.
McClintic's family had been trying to reach him to inform him of his sister's death, but were denied access to his apartment by Cowens, his caretaker of several years. This prompted the family to request a welfare check, leading to the grim discovery.
"To know that someone is capable of doing this to a disabled person in my uncle's condition is just outrageous," said McClintic's nephew. Cowens is currently ineligible for bail and is scheduled to appear in court.
