2 Oct
Summary
- Nurse pulled a vulnerable resident to the ground, causing a head injury.
- The nurse falsely reported the incident as a 'witnessed fall'.
- CCTV footage contradicted the nurse's account of the event.
A misconduct hearing revealed that a nurse employed at Swallowfield Garden Care Home in Bolton, David Guyers, forcefully pulled a vulnerable resident to the ground. This action caused the resident, referred to as Resident A, to sustain a cut to his head. The incident occurred on the night of February 22, 2023.
Guyers claimed Resident A was causing a disturbance in the kitchen. However, CCTV footage reviewed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) showed the resident's behavior did not appear concerning. The panel found that Guyers had lied in his incident report, describing the event as a 'witnessed fall'. Based on this evidence, Guyers was struck off the nursing register.
