19 Dec, 2025
Summary
- A dead mouse, droppings, and raw meat led to restaurant closure.
- Rasathi Sri Lankan Takeaway and Chennai Dosa faced immediate shutdown.
- The business operator and director was fined £22,549.

Two Cardiff food establishments, Rasathi Sri Lankan Takeaway and Chennai Dosa, were forcibly closed due to serious public health risks. Inspectors discovered a dead mouse, rodent droppings, and uncovered raw meat, indicating an "imminent risk to public health." These critical hygiene failures occurred during inspections in September and December 2024.
The businesses, operated by JS Local Ltd, faced scrutiny for significant lapses in food safety management. Cardiff Magistrates' Court heard that basic requirements like pest control, cleaning, and food safety protocols were severely lacking. These findings led to immediate enforcement action to protect consumers.
As a consequence of the inspections and subsequent court hearing on Monday, the business and its director, Jerurasa Senjoansrajah, were ordered to pay a substantial fine of £22,549. Councillor Norma Mackie highlighted the absence of essential safety measures, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
