Cancer-Causing Toys Seized at East Yorkshire Car Boot Sale
15 Jul
Summary
- Cancer-causing toys were seized by officers in Bridlington on July 2.
- The Squeezy Dumplings contain Benzene, a chemical linked to cancer.
- Counterfeit dolls and other unsafe items were also found at the sale.

Unsafe children's toys, identified as Squeezy Dumplings containing a cancer-causing chemical, were confiscated by Trading Standards officers at a Bridlington car boot sale on July 2. The Office for Product Safety and Standards confirmed these items present a serious chemical risk due to the presence of Benzene, a substance linked to cancer and other health irritations.
Beyond the dangerous squishy toys, officers also discovered a significant quantity of counterfeit Labubu dolls, Needoh products, and fake high-end perfumes and Apple-branded items. The event organizers expressed their commitment to addressing such issues and collaborating with Trading Standards. This seizure follows a national recall for the squishy toys and a previous confiscation of over 1,000 similar items from shops in Hull during July. Further inspections are planned across the region.
