4 Oct
Summary
- Five Indian-origin men arrested in Canada for alleged extortion campaign.
- Crimes include shootings, arson, and drug offenses against an auto dealership.
- Investigation linked to broader extortion efforts impacting British Columbia businesses.

In Toronto, five Indian-origin men were arrested and charged in Canada as part of a significant investigation into an alleged extortion ring. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) stated that the arrests followed a 16-month probe initiated by an auto dealership that reported extortion demands in June 2025.
The accused men face charges including extortion, firearms trafficking, arson, and drug offenses. One individual, Sanket Singla, is a national of India, arrested at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The other four, residents of British Columbia and Ontario, were apprehended in Surrey.
Authorities seized four firearms, ammunition, suspected drugs including fentanyl and cocaine, and evidence linking the case to potential wider extortion and violence across British Columbia and Alberta. The investigation is exploring possible connections to organized crime syndicates.
The province-wide extortion task force launched last year is examining numerous cases, many involving threats against business owners within the South Asian community. The potential involvement of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, designated a terrorist entity by the Canadian government in September 2025, is also under review.
