Scientist Slain: Murder Suspect Nabbed After Carjacking

A 29-year-old man, Freddy Snyder, has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting and killing Caltech scientist Carl Grillmair. The incident occurred on Monday morning in Llano, in the High Desert area of Los Angeles County. Deputies responded to a call on 165th Street East and discovered Grillmair, 67, on the porch with a fatal gunshot wound. Paramedics were unable to save his life.
Following the shooting, Snyder reportedly fled the residence and carjacked another individual nearby. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has since charged Snyder with murder, carjacking, and burglary. His bail has been set at $2 million. Grillmair was known for his research at the California Institute of Technology, focusing on areas such as dark matter, galactic structure, and exoplanets.
