In Bangladesh's Shariatpur district, businessman Khokon Chandra Das was subjected to a violent assault, hacked, and set ablaze by unidentified assailants on Wednesday night. The incident took place near Keurbhanga Bazaar as Das was returning home from his shop. He was reportedly stopped, attacked, and then doused with petrol before being set alight.
To escape the flames, Das jumped into a nearby pond, alerting locals who subsequently rushed him to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, he has since been transferred to Dhaka for specialized medical care. Doctors noted extensive injuries across his body.
Authorities have identified two local suspects, Rabbi and Sohag, and are actively working to apprehend them and identify any other individuals involved. The attack occurs amidst a backdrop of sporadic violence against minorities in Bangladesh, with recent incidents including a laborer being set afire and houses being torched.
